“Chrono Jigga” - A Jay-Z/Chrono Trigger Mashup Project by 2 Mello

Ignorant Scene (Jay-Z vs. Chrono Trigger Mashup)

Hello everyone! I’m Scrub Club Records artist 2 Mello and I just wanted to tease my newest project, a full album combining Jay-Z lyrics with Chrono Trigger-sampling hip-hop beats. Here is the first single, a mix of Jay-Z’s “Ignorant Shit” with Chrono Trigger’s “Wind Scene”, on Soundcloud. Thanks for the listen!

Matthew Herbert Creates Experimental Music for iPhone Game

The British electronic producer and sound artist Matthew Herbert has created an experimental interactive soundtrack for the iPhone game PENTAPUZZLE, which is now globally available from the App Store for use on iPhone and iPod touch.

The game features a unique integration of music and gameplay.  Placing and removing puzzle pieces adds and takes away various layers in the music making PENTAPUZZLE, a musical puzzle as well as an actual puzzle.  Additional sounds have been hidden in the game and once found will allow the player to perform a jam session in addition to the main score.

PENTAPUZZLE is available for free from the App Store and users are encouraged to play the game using a stereo headset to enjoy the full audio experience.

About Matthew Herbert

Matthew Herbert has released several albums under different aliases, including the highly acclaimed Bodily Functions in 2001, which was recently reissued.  He produced Roisin Murphy’s debut album, Ruby Blue, and has remixed R.E.M. and Moloko, to name but a few.  Matthew Herbert also has a programming credit on Björk’s album Vespertine and he created several tracks on her Biophilia remixes, released in 2012.  Together with Harry Gregson-Williams, he created the soundtrack for the Ridley Scott/You Tube movie, “Life in a Day”.

Title: SNEStale (Preschtale, Parts 2-4-5)
Track: 05
Composer: Dmitry Zhemkov (C-Jeff)
Arranger: Shannon Mason (Pongball)

The album from which this track comes from is “Preschtale Variations”, which is an arranged album of the music of C-jeff’s “Preschtale,” a catchy album that was released last year. “Preschtale Variations” is real treat for those who enjoyed the original, and deserves attention for it’s unique and amazing arrangements…

Today, I present you with Pongball’s contribution to the album; an astonishing track that pours an emotional feast as to tug at the heart strings of listeners. Myself? I get a sense of mystery and lonely melancholy—especially during introduction of the accordion(?)/harmonica(?). Wonderful, wonderful track. Bravo Shannon.

I wonder, what emotional response do you have from listening to this track?

Howdy everyone,

I wrote up a quick, general survey asking some questions about Video Game Music, and I would love to have you beautiful people take part in the survey. Pretty much what I’m asking is:

What makes Video Game Music Unique?
and
Can you spot it out from a group of music?

I gave one or two examples in the question help section underneath the main questions as to show possible ways to go about answering it, but please don’t let it limit your responses to follow that frame of thought…let it it be a starting point. So in other words…even if both questions are general, you don’t have to let your answers be! :)

Thank you for your time for reading, especially if you do take part in the survey. I’m not collecting personal information either, so it’s a straight forward form submit without the strings. Also, depending on the success of this survey, there may be additional surveys in the future that link together. Thanks again…

Note: It would be a great help if you could spread this survey around via reblog for those on Tumblr. You’re kindness and help is always appreciated…thank you.

An Original Electronic/Orchestral Video Game Soundtrack

http://axlstatus.bandcamp.com/

My first video game OST, which I’ve been working on for the past few months. It’s a full-length mix of house, ambient, orchestral, and avant-garde music that draws heavily from works such as Chrono Trigger, Nier, and EarthBound.

Give it a listen if it sounds like your kind of thing!

Recent News 12/07/12

Howdy everyone! Apologies for the inconsistency of posting, as I have poured most of my attention to my classes (finals and papers) and posting on my main account: Rhythmroo.tumblr.com. I should note this now so I don’t forget: I’m probably going to focus my attention on my main account (which will harbor the rest of my audio uploading) and other sporadic thoughts/comments on music (knowing me, it’ll keep to music from games). I recommend if you’d like to be part of the discussions I post on my other tumblr on game music and such to follow it. As for this blog, it’s going to continue posting future game music-related submissions and reblog game music audio from my other account.

And speaking of submissions, for some reason I wasn’t notified of new submissions…sorry about that. I just checked my inbox and saw it had a couple in there (where are now posted). Thanks for your patience submitters! :)
